Analyser measuring the flue gases of a condensing boiler

Looking after a Viessmann Vitodens

Few condensing gas boilers are as widespread in Belgian homes as the Vitodens: the 100-W, 111-W, 200-W and 222-W are everywhere. They last a long time, on one condition: regular servicing. The legal interval varies from one Region to another and between gas and oil, and we tell you which one you must follow.

During the visit, the burner is removed and the stainless steel exchanger cleaned. The engineer inspects the burner surface and gaskets, swaps worn ignition and ionisation electrodes, rinses the siphon, tests the expansion vessel and finishes with a combustion measurement, correcting the settings when needed.

You get the maintenance attestation before he leaves. If the boiler is connected to the ViCare app, he can also make sure the link and your heating programmes still work.

Oil-fired floor-standing boiler in a cellar

Vitola and Vitorondens oil boilers

Outside the cities, many houses still run on heating oil, and Viessmann floor-standing models are a familiar sight in their cellars: the Vitola, and the condensing Vitorondens, frequently next to a separate hot water tank.

An oil boiler needs a visit every year. The burner is cleaned and given a new nozzle and filter, soot is removed from the exchanger, the flue is looked at and the combustion is tested. When such a boiler will not start, the trouble usually lies with the burner (photocell, nozzle, oil pump, ignition) or with the fuel feed.

Ready to move away from oil? A modern condensing appliance, a switch to mains gas where available, or a heat pump: we compare them after a visit, in a free quote.

Viessmann air-to-water heat pump outside a home

Vitocal heat pumps

The Vitocal air-to-water heat pumps are taking over from gas and oil boilers in more and more Belgian homes. We install them after studying the house, and we maintain and repair units already in place, whether standalone or combined with a boiler.

The faults we see most are an outdoor unit that ices up, insufficient water flow, a sensor or pressure alarm, or radiators that never quite get warm. The engineer reads the error list in the controller, measures flows and temperatures, and tells you the solution and its price before acting.

Keep your Vitodens, add a heat pump or replace the lot: one team follows you from the first visit to the annual service.

Diagnosis of Viessmann breakdowns

When a Viessmann stops, the Vitotronic control or the display shows a code with a warning sign. That code is a starting point for the engineer, not a list of parts to change. The main messages are explained on our Viessmann error codes page.

Typical causes are no flame signal at start-up, a faulty temperature sensor, a blocked condensate outlet, a worn circulator or a pressure that has dropped too low. Sometimes the boiler itself is fine and the circuit is to blame: air, stuck radiator valves or sludge.

So our engineer tests the boiler and the radiators alike, explains what he finds and the repair cost, and only goes ahead with your agreement.

How a Viessmann call-out goes

Frequently asked questions

Which Viessmann appliances do you repair?

Vitodens gas boilers, Vitola and Vitorondens oil boilers, Vitocal heat pumps and the Vitotronic controllers. For older models, we first check that parts can still be ordered.

Is a Vitodens difficult to repair?

Not for an engineer used to it. Most repairs involve electrodes, fan, sensors, pump or condensate drain, and many are done in one visit.

Do you service Vitocal heat pumps?

Yes: water circuit, filters, outdoor unit, refrigeration readings and settings, plus repair of the faults the controller reports.

Are you Viessmann's own technicians?

No, we are an independent company that repairs and services Viessmann appliances. If yours is still covered by the manufacturer, check their terms first.

How is the price of a repair set?

The call-out and first hour are announced before we come; each part is priced before it is fitted. New appliances are quoted for free.

My oil boiler smells. What should I do?

A smell of fuel or fumes is never normal. Ventilate, switch the boiler off if it is safe and call 0477 03 88 98.

Can you install another brand instead?

Yes. We recommend the appliance that suits your home and budget, Viessmann or not, and handle the whole replacement.
