Atag boiler not heating
Atag boilers are built around a stainless steel heat exchanger and are known for their efficiency. The models we meet most in Belgian homes are the Atag Q (combi and system versions) and the iC and iC Economiser ranges. When one of them stops, the display shows a fault code.
Our engineer reads the code and the fault history, then tests: gas pressure, ignition and ionisation, fan speed, flow and return sensors, pump and pressure sensor. A frequent cause on condensing boilers is a blocked siphon or condensate pipe, especially after frost when the pipe runs outside.
The main codes are explained on our Atag error codes page. Once the cause is found, you are told the repair price before any part is replaced.
Older Atag boilers, from before the Q and iC generations, are still installed in some Belgian homes. We work on them as long as the necessary parts can be sourced. If a key component is no longer made, the engineer tells you on the spot and explains what a replacement would involve, so you can decide calmly.
Servicing an Atag boiler
Like every gas boiler in Belgium, an Atag must be serviced at an interval that depends on the Region. When you book, we tell you which rule applies to your home.
The engineer opens the boiler, inspects and cleans the burner and the stainless steel exchanger, replaces the electrode if it is worn, cleans the siphon, checks the expansion vessel and safety devices, then measures the combustion and adjusts it when needed. Because the stainless steel exchanger of an Atag is quite fine, a regular clean keeps the flue gases flowing freely and the efficiency high.
If you use an Atag One thermostat or another connected control, he checks that it still communicates with the boiler. At the end of the visit you receive the maintenance attestation.
Radiators, pressure and circuit problems
Many complaints about an Atag boiler actually come from the heating circuit. Radiators with air, valves that stay closed, sludge in old pipes or a pressure that keeps dropping make the boiler stop or run inefficiently.
We bleed and balance the radiators, replace faulty valves, flush the circuit when needed and find the cause of a pressure loss: a leak, the expansion vessel or the safety valve. On older circuits with steel radiators, a magnetic sludge filter fitted under the boiler can protect the new exchanger for years.
When a radiator is too small for its room, we replace it, always at a price agreed beforehand.
New Atag boiler, hybrid or heat pump
Atag also offers heat pumps under the Energion name, alone or combined with a boiler. When your boiler is old or keeps failing, we compare a new condensing boiler, a hybrid set and a full heat pump for your house. A hybrid setup lets the heat pump do most of the work in spring and autumn while the boiler covers the coldest days.
