Installing a wall or post charger

Most home charging points are wall-mounted in the garage or on the front of the house. Where the car parks away from the wall, a post charger on a small foundation does the job.

The electrician chooses the route of the cable, the position of the charger and its connection, then fits it with its own circuit and protection. Outdoors he checks that the charger and the cable are protected against impacts and weather.

We install chargers of the main makes and advise a model that suits your car, your supply and whether you want to follow consumption on an app.

Adapting the fuse board and managing the power

A charging point draws a lot of current for hours at a time. It needs a dedicated circuit, a suitable breaker and an RCD of the right type, which the electrician fits in your board or in a sub-board next to it.

If your supply is limited, load management adjusts the charging power to what the house is already using, so cooking and heating do not trip the main breaker. With solar panels, the charger can favour the electricity you produce yourself.

When the board is old or full, the electrician tells you frankly whether it needs updating first.

Repairing a charging point

A charger that no longer starts a session, shows an error or makes the RCD trip: the electrician checks the supply, the protection devices, the cable and the communication with the car or the app.

Many faults come from a tripped protection device, a setting changed after an update or a connection that has worked loose. Others need a part or the manufacturer's support.

He tells you the cause and the cost before repairing.

Compliance and documents

A charging point is part of the electrical installation and must comply with the regulations. Diagrams are updated: the circuit appears on the single-line diagram and the layout plan.

The protection devices are matched to the cable and the charger, and the earth is checked. An old board without an RCD, or a poor earth, must be put right first.

Depending on your situation, the installation may have to be checked by an approved inspection body; we prepare the documents for it.

The steps of your installation

You contact us with a photo of the board and of the place where the car parks. We book a visit and you receive a free quote with a fixed price.

On the day, the electrician lays the cable, fits the charger and the protection devices, sets up load management and updates the diagrams.

He then runs a first charge with you, shows you the settings and hands over the job sheet and the invoice.

Why entrust us with your charger

We are electricians by trade, used to Belgian installations and their boards. We look at the whole installation, not only the charger.

The same office handles heating, heat pumps and solar panels, so the charger can be planned with the rest of your projects.

For businesses and blocks of flats, we also install several chargers with shared load management.

Can the charger slow down when the house uses a lot?
