Power cut or a breaker that keeps tripping

When the residual current device trips as soon as you reset it, one appliance or one circuit has an earth leakage. The electrician switches circuits off one by one, measures the insulation and finds the culprit: often a washing machine, an outdoor socket or a junction box full of water.

If a single breaker trips, the circuit is overloaded or has a short circuit. A kettle, a heater and an oven on the same kitchen circuit is a classic in older flats.

No power at all in the flat? Check first whether the whole building or the street is affected: in that case it is the grid operator Sibelga who has to be called, not an electrician.

Replacing an old fuse board

Porcelain screw fuses, a board without a residual current device, scorched wires: in many Brussels flats and town houses the fuse board is the first thing to renew.

A new board brings residual current protection adapted to each part of the home, clearly labelled circuits and room for future needs, such as an induction hob or a charging point.

The work usually takes a day. The electrician tells you in advance when the power will be off, so you can plan around it.

Electrical inspection before a sale or a rental

In Belgium, when a home is sold, the electrical installation must be inspected by an approved inspection body, and the report is handed to the buyer. Landlords also need a safe installation, and many letting agents ask for a recent report.

If the inspection finds defects, they have to be put right within a set period and then checked again. We correct the points listed in the report and prepare the installation for the re-inspection.

Before the official inspection, a preliminary check by our electrician avoids surprises: missing earth, no residual current device in the bathroom, outdated wiring, missing diagrams.

Sockets, lighting, kitchen and bathroom

Adding sockets in a home office, moving a light point, rewiring a kitchen for new appliances, putting in bathroom lighting that matches the safety zones: these are the jobs that come up most in Brussels flats.

In older buildings, cable runs are often a puzzle. The electrician looks for the least visible route, in existing conduits, behind skirting or in trunking, before suggesting chasing the walls.

For larger renovations we work with your contractor so that the electrical work is done at the right moment, before plastering.

Home charging point for an electric car

A charging point needs a dedicated circuit from the fuse board, the right protection and, in a shared car park, the agreement of the co-ownership.

We check whether the existing connection can take the extra load and, if needed, add load management so the charger slows down when the oven and the heat pump are running.

We fit wall boxes in private garages, driveways and building car parks across Brussels.

Businesses, shops and offices

For shops, restaurants and offices, a breakdown costs money. We repair faults, add circuits, adapt lighting and prepare installations for their inspection.

We work early in the morning or after closing time when that suits the business better; the visit is agreed in advance.

For buildings with several tenants, we coordinate with the managing agent and leave a written report of what was done.

Frequently asked questions

My RCD keeps tripping, what should I do?

Unplug appliances and reset; if it trips again with everything unplugged, a circuit has a fault. Leave it off and call us.

Do you carry out the official electrical inspection?

No, that is done by an approved inspection body. We prepare the installation and correct the defects listed in the report.

How long does replacing a fuse board take?

Usually one day; the electrician tells you in advance when the power will be off.

Can you install a charging point in a shared car park?

Yes, with the agreement of the co-ownership; we check the connection and the load.

No power in the whole street, who should I call?

Sibelga, the grid operator for Brussels; an electrician can only help inside your home.

Which municipalities do you cover?

All 19 municipalities of the Brussels-Capital Region.
