Plumber repairing a leak under a sink

Finding and fixing leaks

A leak under the sink, a weeping joint in the cellar, a stain on the ceiling or a water meter that keeps turning with everything closed: the plumber finds where the water comes from before opening anything up.

He checks the visible points first: traps, hoses, isolation valves, appliance connections. If water comes from the floor above, he tests shower, bath and toilet one by one. For a pipe in a wall or floor, he narrows down the area before opening.

He replaces old lead or galvanised pipes with multilayer or copper. An isolation valve per flat or per floor means that the next repair will not cut the water to the whole building.

Taps, showers and bathrooms

A dripping tap, a shower mixer that no longer holds its temperature or a bath tap running through both outlets: usually the cartridge is worn or scaled. The plumber replaces it, or the tap itself if it is too old.

For a new bathroom, he fits walk-in showers, low-profile trays, vanity units, double basins and thermostatic mixers. He adapts supply and waste and makes sure the waterproofing under the tiles is right.

For a full refit, one point of contact coordinates all the work: plumbing, electrics, tiling, ventilation and finishing. You receive an itemised quote in advance.

Toilets and cisterns

A cistern that keeps running wastes a lot of water unnoticed. Usually the fill valve is worn or the flush seal no longer closes because of limescale. The plumber replaces the parts, including on a concealed cistern behind a flush plate.

A toilet leaking at the base has a connector or seal that needs replacing. If the pan is cracked or old, the plumber fits a new toilet, floor-standing or wall-hung with a frame.

If the waste is too high for a standard toilet, in a cellar for example, a macerator can be the answer. The plumber tells you what is possible.

Technician repairing an electric water heater

Water heaters and hot water

No hot water, a water heater tripping the breaker or a safety group that keeps running: the technician tests the element and thermostat and replaces what is faulty.

If the tank leaks at the bottom, it has rusted through and the water heater must be replaced. The plumber chooses the capacity for the household and fits a standard or a heat pump water heater, which uses far less electricity.

In hard-water areas, a water softener on the mains supply protects the water heater, taps and appliances from limescale.

Water softeners and water treatment

In much of Belgium, tap water is hard: it contains a lot of limescale. It builds up in water heaters, boilers, taps, shower heads, washing machines and dishwashers. Appliances use more energy, fail sooner and taps need descaling more often.

A water softener is fitted on the mains supply, just after the water meter. Resin captures the limescale and is regenerated with salt. The plumber fits a bypass so you can isolate the softener without cutting the water, and a drinking-water tap if you wish.

He first measures your water hardness, chooses the capacity for the household and sets up the unit. We then service it: checking settings, cleaning and replacing wear parts.

Frequently asked questions

How quickly can a plumber come?

We offer the first available visit, often the same day, depending on your area. Call 0477 03 88 98.

How much does a plumber cost?

It depends on the job, the time and the parts. For a repair you know the price beforehand; for works you receive a quote.

Do you come at weekends?

Yes, 7 days a week. Any evening or weekend charge is quoted before we set off.

Can I buy the parts myself?

Yes. Only the labour is then charged, once the plumber has checked the parts are suitable.

What should I do with a big leak?

Close the main stopcock near the water meter, switch off the power if water approaches a socket, and call us.

Do you fit complete bathrooms?

Yes, with plumbing, electrics, tiling and ventilation. You receive a detailed quote.

Which languages do you speak?

English, French and Dutch; quotes and invoices can be issued in all three.

Do you do small jobs?

Yes: replacing a tap, connecting a dishwasher, fitting an isolation valve or changing a trap. For small jobs too, the plumber gives the price first.
