It runs but does not cool

This is the question we hear most. The fan blows, the light is on, but the air coming out is no cooler than the room. Often the cause is simple: grey filters full of dust, or an outdoor unit buried in leaves or standing in full sun with no space around it.

If the airflow is fine, the technician measures the pressures and temperatures of the refrigerant circuit. Too little refrigerant almost always means a leak. Topping up without sealing it means paying again next summer.

He also checks the compressor, its start capacitor and the outdoor fan. A compressor that clicks and stops after a few seconds calls for a different approach than a fan that no longer turns.

Water running out of the indoor unit

An air conditioner makes water when it cools. That condensate collects in a tray and runs through a thin pipe to the outside or to a drain. If the pipe blocks or loses its slope, the tray overflows and water runs down the wall.

The blockage comes from dust, kitchen grease or a slimy film in the tray. A condensate pump, if there is one, may also have failed; it is often hidden in the trunking or above a false ceiling.

Switch the unit off and put down a towel until the technician comes. He cleans the tray, clears and flushes the drain, checks the slope and the pump, then runs the unit to see that the water flows away properly.

Error codes and blinking lights

Every make speaks its own language: letters and figures on the Daikin remote (U4, A5, E7…), a number of blinks on others. One code can have several causes, so note or film it before switching off.

Communication faults between the indoor and outdoor units are common after a storm, a power cut or building works: a pinched cable, a corroded terminal, a damaged board.

Send us a photo of the display or the remote on WhatsApp. The technician brings the most likely parts and saves time on site.

Noise, smell, ice: other warning signs

An outdoor unit that vibrates or whistles may have a loose bracket, an unbalanced fan or a pipe knocking against the wall. A bang at every start usually comes from the compressor or its capacitor.

A musty smell at start-up, especially in heating mode, comes from a dirty indoor coil and tray. A thorough clean of the indoor unit solves it.

Ice on the pipes or on the outdoor unit in summer is not normal: too little refrigerant, a blocked filter or a fan running too slowly. Switch off and let the ice melt before we arrive.

Wall unit, multi-split, ducted or cassette

A wall unit in a bedroom is repaired differently from a ducted unit above a false ceiling. Ducted and cassette units need an access hatch and a suitable ladder: mention it when you call.

On a multi-split, one outdoor unit serves several rooms. If only one room stops cooling, the problem usually lies in that indoor unit or its valve; if they all stop, we look at the outdoor unit.

In a shop, a server room or a practice, a broken air conditioner stops the work. We also come to offices, shops and buildings, in agreement with the manager.

Repair or replace?

A unit under ten years old is nearly always repaired: filter, drain, sensor, board, fan, leak search and brazing. The technician tells you what he found and what the repair costs before he starts.

On an older unit still running on a refrigerant that is no longer made, a major repair does not always make sense. We explain why and give you a quote for a recent, quieter and more efficient unit.

After the repair, a yearly service prevents most breakdowns at the start of summer: filters and coils cleaned, pressures and drain checked.

Frequently asked questions

My air conditioner no longer cools: does it need topping up?

Not before the leak is found. A circuit in good condition does not lose refrigerant: find and repair the leak first, then refill.

Why does my air conditioner leak water down the wall?

Almost always because of the condensate drain: a blocked pipe, a bad slope or a failed condensate pump.

Do you repair an air conditioner fitted by someone else?

Yes, all the usual makes, whether we fitted them or not.

Does a refrigeration technician have to do the repair?

For anything involving the refrigerant, yes: the circuit has to be opened, emptied and refilled with the right equipment.

My air conditioner shows a code: what should I do?

Note or photograph the code, switch the unit off for a few minutes and restart it once. If it comes back, call us with the photo.

Do you work everywhere in Belgium?

Yes, in Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia; the office gives you the first possible time in your municipality.

How do I book?

Call 0477 03 88 98, send us a WhatsApp message or book online with the « Book an appointment » button. Tell us the municipality and, in a few words, what is going on.

Air conditioner broken?

Call 0477 03 88 98 or send a photo of the code on WhatsApp: a technician finds the cause before replacing anything.
