Chaffoteaux: a French brand found in many flats
Founded in France and well known in Brussels apartments, Chaffoteaux has long produced gas water heaters and compact boilers. Today the Pigma, Serelia, Mira and Talia condensing boilers are the models we meet most, many of them installed in kitchens or cupboards.
Their display shows a three-digit code whose first digit gives the area concerned. 501 (no flame) and 108 (low water pressure) represent most of our call-outs. On older open-flue models connected to a chimney, 601 signals that the flue gas thermostat has reacted, which must always be taken seriously.
Older Chaffoteaux boilers sometimes show only a blinking light instead of a code. Our engineers know how to read these signals too.
From diagnosis to repair
The technician starts with the code history and a few measurements: gas pressure, ionisation current, pump operation, circuit pressure, chimney draught for open-flue boilers. This shows whether the fault comes from a part, a lack of maintenance or the installation itself.
Before repairing, he gives you the price. During a yearly service he also cleans the boiler, analyses the combustion and hands over the service attestation.

What does 501 mean on a Chaffoteaux boiler?
No flame was detected when the boiler tried to light. The engineer looks at the gas supply, the ignition electrode, the flame detection and the gas valve.
What does code 108 mean?
The water pressure in the heating circuit is too low. When it drops repeatedly, a leak or a faulty part is usually involved.
My Chaffoteaux shows 601: what should I do?
Leave the boiler off and call us. 601 means the flue gas thermostat has reacted on an open-flue boiler: the evacuation of the flue gases must be examined.
Are Chaffoteaux and Ariston codes the same?
