Repairing a cold room and its condensing unit

A cold room that warms up, a compressor that cuts out, ice on the evaporator or an alarm that keeps sounding: the technician starts with the temperatures and pressures of the circuit, then checks the fans, the defrost, the controller and the door.

Common causes are a dirty condenser, a fan motor that has failed, a defrost heater or timer out of order, a door seal that no longer closes, or a refrigerant leak.

He gives you the repair cost before doing it and, if a part has to be ordered, looks for a way to keep the room cold in the meantime.

Installing a chilled or freezer room

A chilled room runs above zero, for fresh products; a freezer room runs well below. Insulated panels, door, evaporator and condensing unit are chosen for the volume, the products and how often the door opens.

The technician looks at where the unit can go outside, the electrical supply and the drain for the evaporator water, then gives you a detailed quote.

Installation includes the panels, the refrigeration circuit, the electrical connection, the controller and the commissioning with temperature checks.

Displays and cabinets connected to a central unit

In many shops, several displays and cabinets share one central refrigeration unit. A fault on the central unit affects all of them; a fault on one display often comes from its own valve, fan or controller.

The technician traces the problem back from the display to the central unit and checks the pipes and insulation in between.

We work on refrigerated displays, counters and cabinets of the common makes.

Servicing and leak checks

Condenser cleaning: a condenser full of dust or grease makes the compressor work harder and fail sooner. Evaporator and defrost: ice that builds up blocks the airflow and the room warms.

Door and seals: a door that does not close well lets warm, damp air in and causes ice. Leak checks: depending on the amount of refrigerant, the rules require periodic checks, which we record.

Alarms and sensors: the temperature alarm and the sensors are tested, so you are warned in time if something goes wrong.

What to do while waiting for the technician

Keep the door closed as much as possible and note the temperature shown by the controller every so often. Move the most sensitive products to another cold room or a fridge if you can.

Check that the condensing unit has power and that nothing blocks the airflow around it.

Tell us the make of the unit, the temperature reached and any alarm or code: the technician brings the right parts.

How the visit goes

You call us and describe the problem. The call-out cost is given before anyone leaves.

On site, the technician finds the cause, tells you the repair cost and waits for your agreement before repairing.

Once the cold is restored, he checks the temperatures and hands over the job sheet and the invoice from Service Technic Belgium.

How often should a cold room be serviced?

At least once a year, more often in a hot or greasy environment such as a kitchen.

Are leak checks compulsory?

Depending on the amount of refrigerant in the installation, yes. We carry them out and record them.

Do you repair refrigerated displays too?

Yes, displays, counters and cabinets, standalone or connected to a central unit.

Do you work for private clients?

Our cold room work is mainly for professionals; for a home fridge or wine cabinet, see our fridge repair page.
