Display cases in pastry shops, grocers and night shops

In Saint-Gilles, Ixelles, Schaerbeek or the centre, pastry shops, grocers, sandwich bars and night shops live from their refrigerated displays and cabinets. Open from morning to night, in narrow shops where heat builds up, they get dirty and tired quickly.

The technician checks the condenser, the fan, the sensor, the thermostat, the start relay and the defrost, then replaces the part at fault. He then checks the real temperature with a calibrated thermometer: a display that is two degrees out often goes unnoticed.

We can come before opening or after closing, and the repair is priced before it is done.

Fridges and cabinets in restaurant kitchens

In the often cramped kitchens of Brussels restaurants, refrigerated cabinets, saladettes and under-counter fridges sit right next to the stoves. They are opened hundreds of times per service, and their condenser draws in cooking grease.

Ice on the evaporator, defrost water overflowing, a torn door seal, a stuck fan or faulty controls: we repair the cause and check the whole appliance. The detailed job sheet helps with your food safety records.

A service before summer, together with the cold room, avoids most breakdowns in the middle of the terrace season.

Counters and bars linked to a unit on the roof

To keep the room cool and quiet, some bars, brasseries and mini-markets have counters linked to a condensing unit on the roof or in an inner courtyard. In summer the heat of a Brussels flat roof can make it cut out on safety.

The technician cleans the condenser, checks fans, pressures and controls, and looks for a leak on the pipework. The leak is fixed before any top-up, otherwise the fault comes back.

Tell us how to reach the roof or the courtyard, and the technician comes with the right equipment.

Fridges in Brussels kitchens

In flats the kitchen is often small and open onto the living room, with the fridge built into a tall unit. The heat has to leave through grilles in the plinth and at the top of the unit; if they are blocked, the compressor runs non-stop and overheats.

American fridges are common in Uccle, Woluwe or Watermael-Boitsfort: an ice maker that is stuck, a leak at a fitting or a solenoid valve, a water filter never changed.

On no-frost fridge-freezers, a warm fridge with a cold freezer usually points to the fan or the automatic defrost. Water in the vegetable drawer means the small drain hole at the back is blocked.

What to do while you wait

Keep the doors shut: a full freezer keeps its cold for several hours. Check the plug, the fuse and whether the thermostat has been turned by mistake.

If ice blocks the fan, unplug the fridge, move the food to a cool box and let the ice melt with the doors open and cloths on the floor.

Never scrape the ice with a sharp object: piercing the circuit ends the life of the appliance on the spot.

Repair or replace?

The diagnosis comes first, with its cost given on the phone, and the technician finds the part at fault. Seals, fans, sensors and boards are replaced without difficulty.

A leak in the circuit of a small fridge, which often runs on isobutane, is rarely worth repairing. The technician says so plainly rather than selling you a repair that will not last.

Either the repair goes ahead at the agreed price, or the old appliance is taken back through Recupel when you buy the new one.

How a visit works

1

You call or book

2

Call-out cost first

The office tells you what the visit costs and when the technician will come, before anyone sets off.

3

Your agreement first

On site, the technician explains what he found and what the repair costs, then waits for your yes. Job sheet and invoice at the end.

Frequently asked questions

Do you repair built-in fridges?

Yes. We also check the ventilation of the unit around it, often the cause of breakdowns on these appliances.

Why is there water at the bottom of my fridge?

Most often the drain hole in the back wall is blocked. We clear it and check the collection tray.

My American fridge leaks under the appliance: what should I do?

Close the water supply to the fridge and call us: a fitting, a solenoid valve or the filter is at fault.

Is my fridge worth repairing?

Often yes for a seal, a fan or a sensor. For a leak in the circuit of a small appliance, replacement is usually more sensible.

Which makes do you repair?

Liebherr, Bosch, Siemens, Samsung, LG, Miele, AEG, Beko, Whirlpool, Smeg and the other usual makes.

Why does my freezer ice up so quickly?

The door seal is often damaged or the door closes badly, and moist kitchen air turns into frost. A faulty defrost gives the same symptom.
