Servicing a gas boiler

A gas boiler looks clean from outside, but the inside gets dirty: dust drawn in with the combustion air, deposits on the burner, scale in the hot water exchanger, residue in the condensate trap. The service puts all of that right.

The engineer removes and cleans the burner, checks and sets the electrodes, cleans the flue side of the exchanger when needed, empties and rinses the trap and checks the seals of the combustion chamber. He also checks the fan and the safety devices.

On the water side he checks the system pressure, the expansion vessel and the safety valve. A well-serviced wall-hung boiler often lasts several years longer than one left alone.

Servicing an oil boiler

Heating oil leaves soot in the boiler. It settles on the walls of the exchanger and acts like insulation: heat passes less easily into the water and more of it goes up the chimney. Brushing the combustion chamber is therefore a must.

The engineer also replaces the nozzle and the filter cartridge, cleans the photocell, the electrodes, the baffle and the burner fan, checks the pump pressure and sets the combustion air. He looks at the oil line too.

For oil boilers the regional rules require a yearly service with an attestation. Sweeping the chimney or flue is a separate job, also required at regular intervals.

The combustion analysis and your attestation

No service is complete without a measurement. The engineer places the probe of his analyser in the flue and reads the CO, the CO2 or O2, the flue temperature and the efficiency. He compares these values with the limits for your type of boiler.

If a value is out of range, he adjusts the boiler and measures again. If adjusting is not enough, he explains why and what needs repairing, with the cost, before doing any extra work.

The service attestation records the results and the checks carried out. Keep it: your Region asks for it, your insurer may ask for it after a claim, and so will your landlord if you rent.

Shared plant rooms and buildings

For blocks of flats, co-ownerships and commercial buildings, the service covers the whole plant room: boilers, burners, pumps, valves, controls, expansion vessels and hot water production.

Our engineers plan the service with the managing agent, ideally before the heating season, and warn the occupants if heating or hot water has to be cut for a few hours.

Each boiler receives its attestation and the manager a report flagging the parts to watch or replace. That lets you budget the work instead of discovering it during a breakdown.

Why service your boiler every year

Safety: poorly adjusted combustion can produce carbon monoxide, and the service checks the flue gases and the flue. Savings: a clean, well-set burner uses less fuel for the same comfort.

Fewer breakdowns: worn parts are spotted before they fail in the middle of winter. Insurance: after a claim, the attestation is often the first thing asked for.

Lifespan: a boiler that is looked after keeps going longer, which delays the cost of a replacement. If you also have a heat pump or a water heater, mention it when you book so everything is done in one visit.

Booking your service

Book online with the « Book an appointment » button or call us. Choose a slot that suits you: September, October and the spring are quieter than the first cold weeks.

Have the make and model of the boiler ready, the date of the last service and any code it has shown. Clear the access to the boiler and, for oil, to the tank.

A service usually takes about an hour for a boiler serviced every year, longer if it has not been opened for some time.

Frequently asked questions

Is servicing my boiler compulsory?

Yes, in all three Regions, at a frequency that depends on the fuel and the Region. The engineer tells you which rule applies to you.

How long does a service take?

About an hour for a boiler serviced every year, longer if it has not been opened for a while.

Do I need to prepare anything?

Clear the access to the boiler and have the last attestation ready if you have it.

How much does a boiler service cost?

The cost is given to you when you book, before the visit. Call 0477 03 88 98 or book online.

Do you service all makes?

Yes: Vaillant, Bulex, Viessmann, Buderus, Remeha, Junkers, Saunier Duval, ACV, Atag, De Dietrich, Wolf, Intergas and others.

I rent my home: who pays for the service?

Often the tenant pays for the yearly service, but check your lease, which may say otherwise.

How do I book?

Call 0477 03 88 98, send us a WhatsApp message or book online with the « Book an appointment » button. Tell us the municipality and, in a few words, what is going on.
