Junkers boilers still running in Belgian homes

For decades Junkers was one of the best-selling gas boiler brands in Belgium. Many households still use a Cerapur condensing boiler, a Ceraclass combi or an older Euroline water heater-boiler. Since the brand became part of Bosch, the newer models carry the Bosch name, but the technology and the spare parts remain the same.

On these boilers, a code consists of two characters. EA is by far the most frequent: the flame was not detected. Next come E9 (a temperature limiter has tripped), CE (too little pressure in the circuit) and the fan codes C6 and C7.

Older Junkers boilers are not always easy to repair, because some parts are no longer made. Our engineer tells you honestly whether a repair is still sensible and, if not, offers a free quote for a new boiler.

Combustion analysis during a boiler service

How a Junkers is diagnosed

The technician starts with the service menu, which shows the last faults and the exact code number. He then measures the gas pressure, the ionisation current and the temperatures, and listens to the fan and the pump.

This method avoids replacing an electrode when the real problem is a blocked condensate trap, or changing a pump when the circuit simply lacks water. You get the explanation and the price of the repair before he starts.

During a yearly service the same checks are done preventively, followed by a combustion analysis and the service attestation.

Common Junkers error codes

These are the codes we see most often on Junkers boilers. Your code is not listed? Call us: the engineer knows the codes of every Junkers generation.

CodeMeaningWhat the technician checks
EANo flame detected during start-upGas supply, ionisation electrode, gas valve, flue.
E9Temperature limiter in the heat block or flue gas limiter has trippedWater circulation, pump, heat exchanger, limiters and their wiring.
CESystem pressure too low (models with a pressure sensor)Pressure in the heating circuit, leaks, expansion vessel.
C6Fan not running or air pressure switch not closingFan, air pressure switch and its hose, flue.
C7Fan not runningFan, fan wiring, control board.
E2Flow temperature sensor defectiveFlow sensor and its cable.
A7Hot water temperature sensor defectiveHot water sensor and its cable.
A8Communication with the controller interruptedBUS cable, room controller.
D3Jumper missing on the external thermostat terminal (TB 1)Connection terminal and external safety thermostat.
F0Internal faultConnectors, wiring, control unit.
F7Flame detected while the burner is offElectrodes, moisture on the circuit board, flue.
FAFlame detected after the gas has been shut offGas valve block, electrodes.

Code not in this table: call us, our technician knows it.

Smell of gas? Do not touch any switch, open the windows, leave the house and call 112 from outside. For any other code, write it down and call us: the technician knows what to look at and brings the right parts.

Typical Junkers faults we repair

No ignition

EA code, burner that clicks without lighting, boiler locked in the morning: ionisation electrode, gas valve or flue.

Overheating

E9 after a long run, noise in the pipes: circulation, pump or fouled heat block.

Pressure loss

CE that keeps coming back: leak in the circuit, expansion vessel or safety valve.

Hot water problems

A7 or lukewarm water: hot water sensor, three-way valve or plate heat exchanger.

Frequently asked questions

What does EA mean on a Junkers boiler?

The boiler did not detect a flame when it tried to start. The usual causes are the gas supply, the ionisation electrode, the gas valve or the flue.

What does E9 mean?

A temperature limiter has tripped because the boiler got too hot. Water circulation, the pump and the heat block are examined before it runs again.

My Junkers shows CE: is it serious?

CE means the pressure in the heating circuit is too low. A one-off drop is not serious, but if it keeps returning there is usually a leak or an expansion vessel problem.

Are Junkers and Bosch codes the same?

Mostly yes, as Junkers is part of Bosch. Recent Bosch boilers also show a three-digit service number that gives more detail.

What should I do when a code appears?

Write the code down and call us. Restarting a boiler again and again does not repair it.

Is my old Junkers still worth repairing?

Often yes. When parts are no longer available or the repair costs too much, we give you a free quote for a replacement.
