What we treat as an emergency

A blocked toilet when it is the only one, sewage rising through the basement floor drain or the downstairs shower, a sink overflowing every time it is used, a restaurant that can no longer empty its sinks.

In those cases, waiting until tomorrow makes things worse: tiles soak up water, basement walls absorb it, smells set in.

For a drain that is just slow, we will rather offer you a visit in the coming days: a weekday call-out costs less, for the same result.

Storms and Brussels basements

In a heavy storm, the sewers in some low-lying districts, along the Senne or Maelbeek valleys, fill up very fast. Water looks for the lowest outlet in each house: the floor drain or the shower in the basement.

When the public sewer is overloaded, no unblocking helps while the rain lasts. The technician then checks that your own connection is clear and that the non-return valve, if there is one, closes properly.

If your basement backs up in dry weather too, the blockage is on your side, between the house and the street: we remove it with a snake or by jetting.

What the technician brings

The van carries a jetting unit with its hoses, snakes in several sizes, pressure plungers, an inspection camera and tools to take apart traps and toilet connectors.

He first finds the lowest point where water is standing, opens the nearest access point and works the blockage loose towards the sewer.

Once the water is gone, he rinses the pipe, checks it drains at full flow and, if the cause is unclear, runs the camera to show you.

Evenings and weekends

Our drain technicians work after office hours too. On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays the call-out costs more than on a weekday; the office tells you how much before anyone sets off.

If the situation can wait until Monday, the office will say so honestly and give you an appointment.

For a business, we can come after closing time so as not to disturb customers or the kitchen.

After an emergency

The job sheet says what was blocking, where, and how it was removed. Keep it: your insurer or landlord may ask for it if the water caused damage.

If the camera showed a broken pipe or roots, you receive a repair proposal, with no obligation.

Blockages that keep coming back, in a building or restaurant, are prevented by regular jetting on a date that suits you.

At night: an on-call technician

When it really is urgent, an on-call technician also comes out at night. Really urgent means: the only toilet in the home is blocked and about to overflow, sewage is backing up into the basement or the ground floor, or dirty water rises in the shower as soon as a tap is turned on.

On the phone, the office asks you three or four questions to judge it with you: where the water is rising, since when, and whether it keeps rising when nobody is using water. If it can safely wait until morning, the office says so honestly and you save the night surcharge.

When the technician sets off, you know roughly when he will arrive and what the call-out costs. He phones you when he is on his way.

The most common emergencies in Brussels

On Sunday evenings it is often the toilet: a family, one toilet, wipes, and the water rising with every try. On Monday mornings it is restaurant kitchens whose sinks will not drain after the weekend service.

On stormy summer evenings, basements in the low-lying districts flood: around Place Flagey, lower Forest, Étangs Noirs or Calevoet. Some of those calls are down to a full public sewer, others to a connection that was already half blocked and the rain finished off.

In winter, kitchen stacks clogged with grease from festive meals make the sinks on the lower floors overflow, often during the holidays when the building manager is hard to reach. We clear the stack and send him the job sheet.

Call straight away if…

Water is rising

In the shower, bath or basement drain, without anyone using water.

The only toilet

The home has one toilet and it is blocked.

Sewage smell

A strong smell in the basement or bathroom, with dirty water on the floor.

Business at a standstill

Restaurant kitchen, hair salon or surgery with no drainage.

Good reflexes before we arrive

Stop the water

No machines, showers or flushing: every litre comes back up lower down.

Electricity

If water nears a socket or appliances in the basement, switch the circuit off at the board.

Access point

If you know where the inspection chamber or access cap is, clear the way to it.

Photos

Take a few photos of the damage: they will be useful for the insurer.

How a call-out works

1

You call or book

Tell us what is blocked and since when; a photo on WhatsApp helps the technician bring the right kit.

2

Call-out cost first

The office tells you what the visit costs and confirms the time.

3

Your go-ahead

The technician finds the blockage, explains the method and its cost, and waits for your yes. You get the job sheet and the invoice.

Frequently asked questions

How fast can you get to me?

It depends on the time and the district. The office gives you a realistic time on the phone, without promises it cannot keep.

Is a night call-out more expensive?

Yes, evening, weekend and public holiday call-outs cost more. You know the amount before the technician sets off.

The street sewer is overflowing, can you help?

The public network is run by Vivaqua, who must be told. We check and clear your private connection between the house and the street sewer.

My basement floods during a storm, what should I do?

Switch off the basement electricity if the water gets close, do not walk in barefoot and call us. If the public network is overloaded, we come back after the rain to check your connection.

Do you come to restaurants in the evening?

Yes, after service we clear sinks, pipes and the grease trap.

Do you pay for the water damage?

No. We clear the drain and write a precise job sheet; that is the document your insurer will ask for.

Do you really come out at night?

Yes, for a real emergency: only toilet blocked, sewer backing up, basement taking in water. An on-call technician comes out; the night surcharge is announced beforehand.

How do I know if my problem is urgent?

If the water keeps rising, overflows, or the home has no working toilet left, it is urgent. A slow drain can wait for a weekday appointment, with no surcharge.

How do I book?

Call 0477 03 88 98, send us a WhatsApp message or book online with the « Book an appointment » button. Tell us the municipality and what is blocked.
